Clinic Sorig, dispensary in Kathmandu (Nepal)
Amchi (traditional Tibetan doctor) and Lama (teacher of Tibetan Buddhism), Sonam was in charge of the Halesi dispensary (in Nepal) before opening this new branch in Kamthmandu with a colleague administering traditional prevention and basic treatments. In order to continue to promote this invaluable ancestral medicine, he is now installed in the capital, where he has opened a new dispensary, accessible to all inhabitants without distinction of castes but also to foreign travelers who want a better life hygiene.
As the Hippocratic Oath is taken by western doctors, the Amchis take the eleven vows of Tibetan doctors.
Before starting medical studies, the student of “Traditional Tibetan Medicine, Sowa Rigpa” must master reading, writing, spelling, calligraphy, the study of synonyms, each remedy as well as the ingredients that make them. Then the studies of medicine begin: memorization of the verses which bring together the key points of the "Four Tantras of Medicine" (treatises of Tibetan medicine), identification of the many plants which compose the remedies (pills, powder, infusion ...). FInding and gathering the plants in the mountains, studying the healing and therapeutic aspects of each of the specific plant and parts, (stem, leaves, flowers and/or roots) and their mode of administration as the preparation of remedies. Learning the subtle art of diagnosis by taking the patient's pulse, in order to detect imbalances wind, bile and phlegm (the three principles or moods that must be balanced to be in good health).
The student is also introduced to non-drug therapies such as moxibustion, bleeding, digipuncture, massage and suction cups. He also is instructed obstetrical science.
Sonam offers a blond herbal tea as a sign of welcome to his patients wich is an old recipe found in a medical manuscript, dating back several centuries.
This infusion strengthens the immune system, it is beneficial to the organs (heart, lung, kidneys, spleen, stomach), has a calming and antidepressant effect.
Sonam also travels to remote villages in the Nepalese Himalayan mountains in order to introduce populations to the concepts of primary prevention.
The clinic also organizes educational workshops for the population and travelers who wish to discover or deepen their vision of this universal medicine.
Sowa Rigpa is a very ancient medical system based on Buddhist philosophy and psychology. It has been practiced for over 2,500 years in Tibet and the Himalayan regions. Sowa Rigpa means "the knowledge of healing". The goal of Sorig is to heal the body, the mind and to restore the energy disturbed by the "three poisons" (wind, heat and phlegm).
